Comparative Effectiveness of Carvedilol versus Metoprolol Succinate in Reducing Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator Therapy Burden Among Heart Failure Patients (CARVTOP-ICD)
PI(s): Mehmet Aktas (University of Rochester Medical Center); Ilan Goldenberg (University of Rochester Medical Center)
Purpose: The study is comparing two heart medications, carvedilol (Coreg) and metoprolol succinate (Toprol), in people with heart failure who have an implantable defibrillator (ICD). The study aims to see which medication is better at preventing abnormal heart rhythms, reducing ICD shocks, lowering the risk of heart-related hospital visits or death, and improving patients’ quality of life.
