CODA: Where COVID and Diabetes Meet

Headshot of Dr. Charles Jonassaint

CODA has officially kicked off! The COVID-19 and Diabetes Assessment (CODA) Study, led by Principal Investigator Dr. Russel Rothman at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, is a multi-network observational study that seeks to answer key questions raised by patients and clinicians about how COVID-19 affects the development of type 1 or type 2 diabetes, particularly regarding glycemic control, vascular function, inflammation, and increased risk of blood clots. In addition, the study examines how genomic, social, and environmental factors influence metabolic function and how both COVID-19 infection and its treatments impact diabetes outcomes. The study is led by PCORnet® partner Vanderbilt University (STAR Clinical Research Network), and PaTH partners at Johns Hopkins University (Hsin-Chieh “Jessica” Yeh, site recruitment lead) and the University of Pittsburgh (Jon Arnold, site recruitment lead, Megan Hamm and Kathleen McTigue, coordination of study-wide engagement activities), the study is supported by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK). PaTH is pleased to announce that The University of Pittsburgh and Johns Hopkins University have begun recruiting participants! For more information about CODA, visit https://codadiabetesstudy.org
