Meet Amir Azizian, MEL-STaR Scholar at the University of Michigan

The PaTH Network is a hands-on laboratory for PhD student Amir Azizian, whose inclusion in the inaugural MEL-STaR (Michigan Embedded Learning Health System Training and Research) program cohort includes working alongside experienced researchers and implementation scientists, as well as sharing his growing expertise, with our Discovery-to-Implementation workgroup and Learning Communities. Dr. Azizian brings a wealth of international experience and education to this role: his Doctor of Medicine degree from Tehran University of Medical Sciences (Iran) has been complemented by a master’s degree in Community and Population Health Sciences from the University of Saskatchewan (Canada), where he also supported the work of the Saskatchewan Health Authority to improve health care delivery across the province using Learning Health Systems (LHS) principles.
Within PaTH, Dr. Azizian serves in our Discovery-to-Implementation (D2I) workgroup (our network-wide LHS initiative), co-facilitates our Hypertension Learning Community, and has been contributing important qualitative analyses of the patient stories about high blood pressure that we have specifically collected for this Learning Community in our Story Booth, archives. When Dr. Azizian has time to relax, he finds joy in playing the santur, a traditional Persian dulcimer. “The soothing, melodic sounds of the santur offer a perfect balance to my busy life, sparking creativity and deepening my appreciation for culture and music,” he says.
We’re delighted to be able to work with Dr. Azizian and look forward to sharing more updates about his research and the progress of our D2I Learning Communities in the PaTH Network. For his part, Dr. Azizian says, “I am so grateful for collaborating in an environment where continuous learning is part of the culture.” Welcome to PaTH, Dr. Azizian!
