PCORnet Steering Committee F2F

On Tuesday, May 14th, members of the PCORnet Steering Committee as well as representatives from PCORI convened in-person in Washington, DC for the 2026 PCORnet Steering Committee F2F with the goals of:

  • 1) Framing and positioning the Network to do 'better' research in the current landscape;
  • 2) Identifying strategic action plans/workplans from the pre-meeting breakout groups
  • 3) Level setting on ways PCORnet resources support growing awareness and contribute to PCORnet® as a learning system.

In attendance from PaTH were PaTH PI Kathleen McTigue, MD and PaTH Co-PI Mike Becich, MD PhD. Some discussions focused on how to better communicate the value of PCORnet in general, as well as the benefit of PCORnet study designation for investigators. Other talks focused on the role of patient partners and how to better define the role of the Lead CRN Patient Partner Co-Investigators. The agenda was rounded out with discussions of health plan partnerships, and how to best strategically position PCORnet within the competitive landscape of data platforms and research networks. Speakers emphasized strengths of PCORnet, such as opportunities to support outstanding pragmatic trials; learn from prospectively collected data that is combined with health record data; and integrate clinical and community partners into study processes throughout the course of a given study.

In-person meetings provide opportunities for creativity and collaboration that can be hard to come by in the confines of a Zoom screen. Connections are strengthened, and it is an opportunity to be reminded that each of our data points represents an actual person that you can see, touch, and maybe even enjoy lunch with.
